Day 5 - Friday 19th March - Water Capture... or not

Today we have installed the big water tank that will capture rainwater from the roof of the static. It holds 1500 litres and we only need 1000 litres for the first concrete pour - sorted! Just one small glitch. Since we arrived we have had 2 water butts attached to the gutters and they are less than half full. We are using the water faster than they are refilling and, looking at the forecast, we are not expecting a deluge any time soon. This is great news for the digging of foundations but we need concrete water so a “plan B” may be needed.

I dug my first hole today. Some test holes in the corners of the garage location to see if there was any rock. There was not so that means we need to put in 750x750x750 concrete piers in - 8 of them to be precise. This is disappointing and involves another 2 cubic meters of concrete but hey ho! I was getting the hang of it by the end of the session.

It was a lovely evening and we wrapped up warm and Rob and Romayne came over for a socially distant drink.

And we remembered the end of day shot….
