Colin delivered 25 tonnes of Coll gravel today before 11am. Super efficient if a tad pricey! It was touch and go whether his tractor would get out. The trailer wheels sunk almost completely into the bog - further reminding us that we need to address drainage for any off-track deliveries. We need to dig a drain through the track using a culvert as soon as possible to allow the land time to dry out for the big heavy summer deliveries. Drainage is steadily creeping up the priority list.
It was a blustery day with some really heavy rain in short violent squalls. I am feeling relieved that we moved the trailer as it would almost certainly be on its side by now. We managed to double our water supply today but we still may have to import some for the cement. My “burn pumping plan” is still a go! It’s raining heavily now so let’s see where we are in the morning…
I have to admit that today I spent a lot of time on admin which is not really helping our cause but the weather was, at times, truly horrific! The sun came out at about 4pm though and we went out to build the wooden form for the concrete piers. A job we could have avoided if I hadn’t dug out the surrounds! The woodwork went like clockwork - firmly in my comfort zone with this task! Great teamwork and in a couple of hours the job was done. We now have a form we can use for the piers (where I stupidly dug out the surrounding ground). Doh!
Tomorrow we are going to pick up John’s wee electric mixer to do a trial pier. If it works ok then well we might just carry on. If it is too inefficient, we will go “industrial” and use the tractor with a much bigger pan mixer and we’ll bring in some help in the form of Ben and Alex’s son. Let’s see how we get on tomorrow!
I'm up to date, should have had a second cappuccino, but I have that to look forward to. You're certainly having an adventure...making me think more about tiny houses - you won't be Sally's flavour of the month!
